Owners Jesse Steffensmeier and Leah Denning opened Meier's Den Tasting Room in Novemeber 2007 with a vision of creating Fort Madison's finest wine experience. With both of their professional careers in full swing, they decided  to start a winery in Southeast Iowa. Jesse quit his job to take on the endeavor full time.  This began by starting their vineyard which was planted in the Spring of 2007. As the vineyard grows and matures, the Tasting Room in downtown Ft. Madison was opened and is currently selling Iowa Wines from other Iowa Wineries.

Meier's Den Tasting Room is located in historic downtown Ft Madison in the old Lee County Savings Bank Building. Built in 1894, the sandstone building stands as a staple on the corner of 8th Street and Ave G. Visit the tasting room and step back 100 years as you gaze at the original tin ceiling and hard wood floors in the Tasting Room.  Peer around the corner into the Vault Room to view the original vaults dating back to 1888. The tasting bar adds a unique touch to the ambience.  Originally a stage front from St John's School in Houghton, Ia where the owners attended grade school and their parents attended school k-12. Visit and see the work that has been done to restore the interior to its beauty and elegance.

As the plans of the future Winery are being perfected, Meier's Den is selling fine wine made in Iowa.  While in the Tasting Room, enjoy a wine tasting to decide which wine you prefer. Once you decide on the perfect wine for the night, you can get a glass or a bottle to enjoy with friends. Don't forget the Sweet Lebonon Bologna from our family farm which has become the local favorite. Or perhaps you would prefer some fresh bread with dipping oils, chips and salsa, or local Iowa cheese and crackers.

We are a family owned and run establishment and would love to have your children here at Meier's Den. We have wonderful treats for them as well.   They can enjoy the sparkling grape juice, apple cider or old fashioned root beer.
